This policy explains how Company legal name (“we”) handles information in the Map Whisperer Chrome extension and on mapwhisperer.io. Questions go to support@mapwhisperer.io.
The short version
- Most of the work happens in your browser.
- When you use chat, your messages and relevant map data go through our server to AI services so they can answer.
- We keep your account, billing and usage records, but not the text of your conversations.
- We don’t sell your data or use it for advertising.
What stays in your browser
The extension runs on the pages you visit so it can detect web maps. It reads page content and watches network requests to find map services and geospatial file links. This detection happens on your device, and we don’t receive your browsing history.
Layers, drawings, imported files and your current session are kept in Chrome’s storage on your device. Your working session clears when you restart the browser. Your sign-in, theme, chat consent and any logo you add for PDF maps stay until you sign out, clear them or remove the extension. Exports are created on your device and saved straight to your computer.
What leaves your browser
| Sent to | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase (our backend, hosted in Sydney, Australia) | Your email address, sign-in codes, workspace name and members, invitations, subscription status, and usage records. Chat requests pass through it. | Accounts, teams, access control and running chat |
| OpenRouter and AI model provider | Your messages, map and layer context, field names, small samples and analysis results, which can include feature attributes and locations. | To answer your questions |
| Stripe | Your email address and the payment details you enter at checkout. We never see your full card number. | Subscriptions, invoices and tax |
| Map services you load | Requests for their data, which reveal your IP address to that service, as visiting the map does. | Loading layers |
| Basemap providers (OpenStreetMap and Esri) | Requests for map tiles, which include your IP address and the area you’re viewing. | Showing the background map |
Chat only sends data after you agree to it in the extension. AI providers handle what they receive under their own terms, which may include temporary retention. Don’t put information into chat that you aren’t allowed to share with these services.
What we keep on our servers
- Account: email address, sign-in records, workspace and team membership.
- Billing: Stripe customer and subscription references, seat count, billing periods and invoice references.
- Usage: when each question ran, who ran it, token counts and a one-way fingerprint of the AI’s reply used to validate the next step. We don’t store the text of your questions or answers.
- Service logs: short-lived technical logs from our providers, such as IP addresses and errors.
We keep account and usage records while your account is open, and billing records for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Email us to ask for your account to be deleted.
The website
This website doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising. Our hosting provider keeps standard technical logs.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Map Whisperer’s use of information received through Chrome extension permissions follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use that information only to provide the features you see, we don’t sell it, and we don’t use it for advertising or to assess creditworthiness.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may be able to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, or object to how it’s used. Email support@mapwhisperer.io. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
